Privacy policy (Malaysia)

This policy explains how NearbyWise ("we") handles personal data on NearbyWise in Malaysia, in line with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA), as amended by the Personal Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2024.

Reading the site

You don't need an account to read NearbyWise, and we don't run advertising or analytics trackers. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to run the site and protect it from abuse. These logs are kept for a short period and are not used to profile you.

We use two small cookies: one remembers the country you chose, and one remembers that you have seen our cookie notice. See the cookie policy.

When you contact us

If you email us (for example with a correction), we use your name, email address and message to reply and to act on your request, and keep them only as long as needed for that. Giving us these details is voluntary, but we can't reply without an email address.

Business information

We publish information about businesses, not private individuals: details each business makes public on its own website and on its public Google listing, such as its name, address, phone number, prices and services. A business can ask us to correct or remove its listing at any time (see corrections).

Who we share data with

We don't sell personal data. We use service providers to host the site and store our data, and they process it only on our instructions. Some of them store data outside Malaysia; where they do, we take steps to make sure the data is protected to a standard comparable to the PDPA.

Keeping data safe

We protect personal data with reasonable security measures. If a data breach is likely to cause you significant harm, we will notify the Personal Data Protection Commissioner and tell you, as the PDPA requires.

Your rights

You can ask to access or correct personal data we hold about you, to receive it in a portable form, or to stop or limit its use, and you can withdraw your consent. We will respond to an access or correction request within 21 days.
